whidbeytv.com/videos//artistic-energy-turnco Turnco is a young family company that left Vancouver, BC city life for slow living on Whidbey Island, WA. Valuing to work and live in the same space and raise our family rurally, and retaining what has impacted and inspired us from life in the city. We are a small batch manufacturing company, producing beautiful and functional pieces crafted for home use. A lot of thought goes into the style, quality and functionality of each product we make. It comes from our experience in working on custom projects, as well as honing our skills of efficiency and organization in making value added wood goods. All of our goods have a mix of simple modern design and warm nostalgia. When possible we use FSC certified lumber, and local hardwood like Madrona, Rock Elm, Big Leaf Maple and softwoods like western Red Cedar, Douglas Fir from our local lumberjack contacts here on the island. Life in the country provides an opportunity to cut our waste considerably. Sawdust and shavings go to farmers and small hardwood scrap becomes kindling to start our home fires burning through the winter. |

As a girl, Janae would follow her father around his wood shop, asking him what pieces of wood scrap she could use to create something. At 12 she was selling her napkin holders at the local holiday bazaar. In 2003, while in college she started a company hand making bags, and skirts, which culminated in a series of fashion shows to debut these one of a kind items, often made from vintage curtains and sheets. After working through college, she choose to pursue a business degree. She graduated when she was 26, knowing that a business degree would be a good step in becoming a successful entrepreneur. In 2015 she opened Turnco's own headquarter shop in their small town of Clinton, she calls it MAKE whidbey Market, and sells goods made by other local makers and offers a kids art studio section.

Kelly was the son of a heavy duty mechanic, so making and fixing things with your hands, was just part of life growing up in a small town in Cariboo county, British Columbia He graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering, which gives him the skills to read and render CAD drawings, should someone have or want them. He left his desk job as an engineer to pursue the hands on work at Turnco. Kelly is the Modern side of Modern and Nostalgic. The opportunity to own and operate their own business together came in 2007. After just 6 month of being married they started out as new owners of Turnco Architectural Wood Products . To this day they still work with builders and cabinet makers supplying architectural columns and hardwood table legs and spindles.
